“It’s no great mystery why my confidence plummets every time I put on pointe shoes. Nevertheless, I wear them in class everyday. I have an audition this Saturday for a new classical dance company. I probably won’t be strong enough on pointe by Saturday but I’ll keep practicing anyway. Some days I feel awful in my pointe shoes and I punish myself by wearing them anyway. Other days I feel elated by my progress. Tuesday was a punishing day. All my old demons resurfaced to humiliate me as I made error after error. Upon returning home I cried out the whole story to Hunky.”
